Licensing in Georgia
Georgia licenses speech-language pathologists through a state board administered by the Secretary of State's office. As in Texas, the license has to match where the client is during the session, not where the clinician is.
When Babies Can't Wait ends
Babies Can't Wait is Georgia's early intervention program, run through the Department of Public Health. It serves children from birth until their third birthday, and eligibility does not depend on family income.
Every child ages out at three, and that is the part families are least prepared for. The program supporting your child stops on a specific date, the school system's process is separate with a different threshold, and the gap between them is where progress gets lost.
If your child is approaching three, start early. There is more room to plan than families realize, but only before the end date rather than after it.
School services and private therapy
Georgia districts provide speech services through the IEP process, decided on educational impact rather than clinical need and usually delivered in a group. That is a real service worth pursuing, and it is a different thing from one-to-one clinical therapy. Many families use both.
Beyond Atlanta
